Rey Mysterio will lead Team Mexico in a five-on-five Survivor Series match against Team USA at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames in Houston on 28 November 2026, Fightful reported.
How the match was announced
Fightful said Mysterio first floated the bout on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story podcast, describing conversations with Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis about building a classic five-versus-five Survivor Series match of Team USA versus Team Mexico. He later confirmed on social media that he will captain Team Mexico.
Fightful’s companion report on the USA-versus-Mexico announcement likewise places the match on the Survivor Series Premium Live Event card. The other eight wrestlers across both teams had not been named at the time of Fightful’s writing.
What is confirmed , and what is not
Confirmed: a traditional elimination-style Survivor Series tag format framed as Team USA vs Team Mexico, with Mysterio as Mexico’s leader, on the Houston WarGames show. Not confirmed: teammates, Team USA’s captain, or whether the bout is positioned as an opener, midcard or show-closing non-WarGames match. Fightful said it would update as more names are added.
Timing inside the Survivor Series build
Survivor Series: WarGames is set for Houston on 28 November. A classic five-on-five match sits alongside the WarGames stipulation matches on the same PLE brand, so later graphics may clarify card order. Until WWE names the other eight wrestlers, the only locked participant on the Mexico side is Mysterio as captain.
Build context
The Portland Road to Survivor Series house-show results already covered on RingZine are separate from this PLE booking. Mysterio’s podcast and social posts are the sourcing for the Team Mexico captaincy; treat later teammate reveals as new news when WWE or the wrestlers post them. National-team framing also gives WWE a clear promotional hook for Hispanic Heritage audiences without requiring a title change to justify the match.
